Therese and Hans Herzog established Hans Herzog Estate in 1994 having left Switzerland in search of the world’s best terroir, which they believe they found in their small vineyard in Marlborough.
Hans, an innovative winegrower, loves to experiment and has a substantial following for making an incredible selection of handcrafted ‘old world’ style from his exceptional ‘Grand Cru’ vineyard.
This unique ‘terroir’ allows Hans to indulge his passion for varietal diversification. When combined with a ‘hands on’ approach and almost uneconomically low yields the results are a stunning range of expressive wines that are rich in varietal character.
Wine making is traditional, non-interventional and purely natural, nothing added or extracted letting the wines and vineyard speak for itself.
The range of wines and consistent quality produced is impressive, from the more popular New Zealand varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, to a plethora of unusual and rarer varieties including Arneis, Grüner Veltliner, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Zweigelt, Montepulciano, St Laurent, Saperavi, Verdelho, Lagrein and Barbera!
